I politely declined and it never went further. I never let on to my sexuality but a few guys tried to get me to be their punk or alluded to the fact that they wanted to be sexual with me. When it did happen it was just another form of violence and domination directed at child molesters or people who were severely in debt. Some (usually black) guys had (usually white) 'punks,' basically a younger, typically twinky guy who'd hang out with them and get fed pretty well from commissary in exchange for company and probably sexual favors though it wasn't always sexual in nature.Īs for rape, I didn't see or hear much of that where I was. There was also the phenomenon of 'prison wives,' where one person would basically take on the role of a 'wife' for an erstwhile straight man. My buddy wasn't gay, he was just addicted to suboxone. One couple I knew would bribe my buddy who loaned out instruments and signed people up for the music practice rooms to let then have sex in said rooms. Some people didn't associate with them, most didn't seem to mind. My experience doing 18 months in state prison is that there were some men known to be gay and everyone (I mean everyone, straights included) knew who was whose boyfriend.
